I hired a local guy to cut some keys for a Jeep Cherokee last week and he showed up with an absolutely stunning home made tool box. It was custom built to fit in the back of his VW station wagon, so he can offer mobile Locksmith services. I was so impressed with this that I asked his permission to photograph it and share it with my fellow garage junkies. Enjoy . . .

Impressive! He modeled it after those roll out type boxes you can get for your van/truck but his looks way nicer all made out of wood!

This belongs in the next revision of 'The Toolbox Book' (Taunton Press)-----an awesome book, BTW, if you've never seen it. Get it!

What're those little buggers he uses to hold all the tools in place in the drawers?

Typically, just other pieces of carefully-shaped and designed wood custom-built to fit the tool it's holding in place. Pretty common in custom toolboxes, if you check out some other ones guys have built.

Notice in the last picture the 110v outlet. He has an inverter, of course, to run the key cutting machine. But that's not all that impressive. What impressed me was the custom wood outlet cover and the key machine is wired with a retractable cord salvaged from an old iron, so that when he slides the lower portion in and out the cord automatically gets longer or shorter. Brilliant.

Very awesome set up there. He's obviously a true craftsman and has pride in what he does. If he's not a member here already, I hope that you let him know about the site and all of the awesomeness that's over here.
