Stupid air filter/regulator question

I'm looking for a filter/regulator for a 2 stage compressor (175psi). I've got my eye on one that says maximum pressure 150 psi. Does that mean that the regulator will regulate the pressure down to 150 at the most or that it's unsafe above 150 psi. It's got the polycarb bowl with a metal cage to protect it. Hope that makes sense.
Thanks

150 is the max pressure you can set the regulator to. Usually these things are rated for much higher supply pressure (like 200-300+). Link to be sure?

Maximum Pressure 150 PSI
Adjustment Range 5-150 PSI

Looks like this one won't work unless this regulator will be downstream from another regulator in the system. Your supply pressure is 175psi, which is too much for this regulator if it's connected directly to tank pressure.

Try this one:

^^^I'd also check other sources than Grainger for that Wilkerson. In my experience of comparing prices lately, Grainger comes out as among the most expensive of the industrial supply houses.

What happens if one puts the 150 psi max on a 2-stage air compressor? Failure mode?

Depends on the supply pressure created by the 2-stage compressor. More than likely it's 175psi. In which case, you could rupture the regulator.
