Stupid Circuit Breaker Question.

Is this 2 pole breaker a 30 amp or 60 amp, the reason I ask is none of my other 2 pole breakers have the amps marked on both sides of the breaker. Thanks.

30 amps are flowing through the circuit. But that is 30 amps at twice the voltage so there are twice as many watts available. Thus, twice the power from the same amperage flowing through the wires.

It's a 2 pole, 30 amp breaker.

30 amps of 120V from the first incoming leg to your house, and 30 amps of 120V from the second incoming leg to your house. Combined, they provide 30 amps of 240V of power to something big in your house (HVAC, oven, stove, water heater, etc). They are joined together because if for any reason something in the wiring or on the appliance trips or grounds out, you want the entire thing to be cut off and not just one of the two legs of power on the appliance.

You never add the ampere rating by the number of poles, whatever number is printed on the handle is what it is, in the case of the SQ D pictured, 30A.

Agreed, although a twin breaker is still a 2 pole breaker, just can't get 240V from it unless it was a GE, or the now obsolete Challenger, or Crouse-Hinds, & Zinsco products.
