Stupid clamp style meter question

Do these types of meter detect DC amps as well as AC amps?? I've seen them used alot on house wiring. But was curious if they work on detecting DC amps. I have a DC motor that I don't know how many amps it draws. My automotive meter only goes to 10 amps DC. So need a better meter. So was curious if the clamp style would be the better way to go.

Some of them do, some of them don't. You'll have to check the specifications of the particular clamp you're looking at.

Most meters with an "amp clamp" work off of inductive reactance,caused by the the 60 hz of AC current. DC does not have this, so you would need a specfic ammeter for that.

Ok That's what I figured. At least I know that there are meters out ther that will serve my purpose. Just need to look carefully at the specs.

Sears has one for under $50, that is both AC and DC amps. Ranges up to 400A if memory serves correct.

Fluke 336 + 337's will do this. My 337 is by far one of my most favorite clamps.
