Stupid Good Deal

I saw this set online (wasn't in the store) and ordered a set (had to pay in advance). 19.98

http://www.lowes.com/pd_199343-1074-22405_4294857606_4294937087?productId=1162245&pl=1&currentURL=/pl_Ratchets%2Band%2BWrenches_4294857606_4294937087_?rpp=15$No=15#

I got it in and went back the next day and ordered 10 sets (to give to reletives as Xmas presents). They are built in the USA, The ratchet feels really nice, the sockets are pretty good (a slight bit of flashing but I've seen worse) comes with extension and spark Plug socket. I think it's a misprint at 19.98 but at less than 50 cents per tool in a nice plastic case it's a stupid good deal. I would suggest anyone to get in on this deal before someone catches on.

I just joined yesterday so I didn't know. I thought for 20 dollars it was really nice. I'm not crazy about Kobalt tools mainly because most of it's made in China. I viced up the ratchet and it withstood 150 lbs of torque on the drive. I put the 3/4 socket on my torque wrench and at 150 lbs didn't break. I thought it would be really nice for a travel box. I like the set because it's not a bunch of fluff. Basic socket set in standard and Metric in the most used sizes.

that is basicly a cman type socket set made by danaher. not a bad deal if you need that type of set.

At $19.** for a USA made set that is a great value. Even if it doesn't perform as well as the main line tools, in a pinch for a road warrior tool case you really can't go wrong!

It's interesting that they sold you a 12 point socket set, very odd . . .

Made in USA, and Guaranteed by Lowe's forever...........looks like a bargain to me. Molded case is a big bonus.

I'd replace the ratchet with one more to my liking. That ratchet is basically the polished Craftsman version with different contours to the handle grip - made by Danaher, like sk farmer posted.

I have a set on my workbench. I someone walked in and took the entire set I would be out less than 1/3 the cost of one of my Snap-On Ratchets

Don't forget forever is as long as lowes is in business and for how long that make that particular tool. See, forever isn't as long as you thought. :lol_hitti

It's the same wiith any tool. I absoluty love S-K tools but try getting one replaced in my area. I remember when Husky made a top of the line tool. I'll keep an old Husky ratchet and use it for a hammer before I would have it replaced with the Stanly **** they build them with now. Nothing is forever but if you make 1 emergency repair it's paid for itself. If I didn't carry tools about everywhere I go I imagine the next time I broke down would be out in the middle of the Nevada desert and with my luck the only person to staop and help me would be a hungry Snap-On dealer. Despite they will probably only be around 10 years or so. It's still cheaper that walking into an autozone and buying an Ampro ratchet and 3 sockets. Been there done that.

I got a set to carry around in the trunk of my car instead of the mismatched set I have been using. Lowes is very good with their warranty stuff, for instance I broke a set of mini task force dikes a few months back, and they no longer carried them, so the customer service called the tool guy over, and we went together looking for a replacement. I ended up getting a set of kolbalt dikes that cost more than the whole task force set I brought before.

I bought a Task Force emergency set in a zip up pouch that I carry in the trunk of my motorcycle. I modified the tools a little bit to cater to my motorcycle but the pouch was worth the 9.95 (on sale) I paid for it. It doesn't ratlle around in the trunk. It has saved my **** twice.

too bad they are in 12pt, if they were 6pt.... I would bought it....

That was my first thought, but the set is for emergency use only, when I go to the track and plan on needing the tools, I bring my big box of snappy and c-man stuff. I figured the $0.50 I am paying per piece, with the free case it was well worth my money.

I would have rather had 6 point but I have a lot of ARP 12 point stuff. Unless the bolt is in really bad shape you are OK. After all most combonation wrenches are 12 point on the box end and it's rare you ever have a problem using them.

So I went ahead and ordered the set yesterday and picked it up last night.
It was missing the 10mm socket and the 3/4 socket was rusted. Went back into the store and opened the other set they had, guess what, missing a socket in that one as well.
I got my 10 MM and replaced the 3/4" one with a non rusted one and out the door I went.
My only real complant is that the sockets do not stay in the case well, they will move all over the place. I'll have to come up with some sort of foam cover to solve that problem.
But overall, for $20.....I really can't complain for a "back of the truck tool set"

Just for clarification, the attached pic is the Lowe's/Kobalt guarantee from the back of the packaging on the set.

Also, the inside of the packaging has the manufacture date stamped on it. Mine is MAY 29 2010.

The set is nice for a back up "under the seat"- 6 pt would be nice and the ratchet selector could be more solid (it is plastic), but it is all stamped USA and was $20.

Ratchet has somewhere between 32-36 teeth and I also recommend finding a thin piece of foam to secure the contents in transit.

Works for me.

Now, that is how all warranty's should be worded and enforced!

Yeah I had the same problem with the set I have (some sockets come out of place but the foam will work wonders. I also thought one of mine was missing the 10mm. It had fallen into the 3/4 deep. Look good you may have an extra socket now. I bought 10 sets (all they had) as Christmas presents. I was in Lowes today and ordered 5 more sets (may take a week to get them). I have all my sons and grandsons covered for this year. Funny because just the deep socket set (just sockets) in Standard is 34 dollars. Lowes will catch this blunder soon. I saw about 15 sets waiting to be picked up at customer service. Now if they would come out with a 1/4 drive set priced around the same i'd be happy

I saw the 1/4" set there for like $12.

It's only Shallow. They havent built a real set yet, lol Craftsman has a nice 1/4 drive set but it's on a tray. I want one in a box that closes. I want it for my work bench. The only one I have in a Plastic box is an old MAC set but the box is looking pretty rough. Looking for something I'm not real worried about walking away but still built in the US. I may find an SK set on ebay

$12.00? :headscrat Oh just noticed you said its not a full set. :bounce:

Just because it has no deep sockets. It's a rare thing for me to use a shallow socket. About the only time I use them is when space is limited.

Yes, I did find the little 10 mm socket "hiding" in the 18 mm deep socket. I'll stop by Lowes on my way home from work and drop off the spare 10 mm.

I was freaking for a few minutes until I found mine. I don't need another excuse to go to lowes. You know your a tool addict when they hand you a soda and call you by your first name when you go into the store and all the cashiers yell "Hey mr jim"

I picked up the 3/8" set today. As others have said, I would have preferred 6 point and the insides of the sockets are a little rough.

But for 20 bucks it's an amazing deal. I've replaced the metric shallow sockets with my 6 point Craftsman easy read sockets and I'll switch out the ratchet at some point. The displaced tools will go into the "upstairs" tool kit.

I took a dremel tool with the little wire brush and cleaned out the sockets. I think it was just some flashing from the chrome. they cleaned up nice. I kind of like the ratchet. It's differant than what they show on the website.
