I bought the mac aw612 1/2" gun only about 2 years ago and it was the strongest gun ive ever owned.. but a few months ago it blew up.. the spline on the front of the rotor sheared off inside.
I contacted aircat and they said theres a beefier rotor but you also have to replace a few other parts to make it all fit.

Its about 100 bucks with all the parts and shipping.. the gun was and still is over 300.00

should I just cut my losses or rebuild it? is there a cheaper way to get these parts?

A) Check with your MAC Dealer
B) Last time I checked 100.00 was less then 300...$100.00 for a new gun is a good deal.

I've had horrible luck with Mac air guns, scrap it and buy IR or SO

I agree I have had really bad luck with Mac Air tools unless they are rebranded CP. Mac impact guns are the only ones I have scrapped without rebuilding because the value doesn't out way buying a new one. Sorry to hear about the damage it is a sad day in the shop when one of your most used tools commits suicide. My favorite 3/4 impact swivel decide to stop being one piece.

I work with this guy who has the same gun and rebuilds it every month. He loves it so much for some reason even though he's gotta tear it down and replace broken parts so often.

I agree on the hatred toward MAC stuff.. most of it is taiwan garbage, and while I dont know the COO of aircat tools, I know Aircat tools by themselves arent so bad, they actually are a branch off of Ingersoll rand I think, And this gun is just a rebadged aircat

no relation to IR. Aircat is Aircat. they are Tiawan coo

While you corrected one round of misinformation, you began another, at least partially...There are a handful of Aircat products that are US made to complement the 'nese made stuff. Unfortunately, the US made items are of "globally sourced" components, but what isn't anymore? It's a global village...

Another note on Aircat's US made offerings - none of it appears to be the top performing or cutting edge of the lineup...they're the "middle of the road" models...

yes but they don't "make" anything here, some are "assembled" here. the parts are all Tiawan sourced.

I love me some Aircats. All of mine perform admirably and I wouldn't trade them for anything IR or SO. They're just......better.

I think you'd be lucky to get $100 for a used aircat, after spending $100 on a rebuild. I would look for a better impact, either IR or S/O.
