Bob, I live in Michigan. In our great state there is NO inspections, and we have no right to detain a customer's car. All we can do is note "VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE AND ROADWORTHY, CUSTOMER ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE signed: *******" on their receipt and wait for the cops to show up. The customer in this instance really didn't care to be told. We tried to show them and they just didn't give any F*^Ks.

Ducksface - that pen is being used as an adapter on the BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM LINE. Not right and unsafe no matter how you cut it. And the P/S cap I normally wouldn't care what they use, but look again and you will see that the reservoir itself is broken and it was dumping fluid out onto the engine and exhaust. It was in for a "smoking" complaint.

Wow. We would have to do what the customer requested, of course, but we would notify the proper authority. In most cases, we would refuse to work on an unsafe vehicle. Lose a customer, maybe. Peace of mind on us, definitely.
Ct does have DMV "Inspectors", but I'm not sure how it works anymore. Things have changed in the 20yrs since I was a pro wrench.

A week or so ago I would have been skeptical over that pic but I saw almost the same damn thing recently while I waiting for my wife to come out of the store,,,the WTF was two cops cruised by and not even a double take.
