stupid ratchet question

I have a Craftsman 1/2" drive ratchet head torque wrench. Good tool EXCEPT the ratchet doesn't. Took it apart and see nothing wrong, but can't figure out how the little spring is supposed to go back in and make the mechanism work. This is not at all like normal Craftsman ratchets, it unique to this wrench, and the 'good' ones NAPA sells are made by the same company I think.

To really p*** me off, this is not warranted by Sears. You know the 'precision tools' exclusion even though is just a ratchet. The 'torque' part works fine.

Any insight out there? How can I fix this D^^^ thing?

the spring could possibly have a ball bearing that needs to be on the end of it between the pawl and the spring. is it there? if so the spring may not be strong enough to keep the ball tight against the pawl

Any insight as to how the spring should look and oriented????

That pin on the cover plate has to fit into that hook part on the spring, then you have to slowly turn it to till in fits into place, it might take a few tries.

I think you also have the spring in wrong, turn it so its the other way, when you turn the cover plate it will go back into the ratchet head.

The spring looks like its in right but it should not be around the center threaded part where the screw goes in. you need to move the spring towards the outside and try to catch the small hooked part of the spring with the little post on the selector. I will try to post a picture.

This is correct. The selector/cover plate will need to rotate a little while you maintain pressure with your thumb, after hooking the post, in order to get it just right with the screw hole lined up.
