Anyways i feel like this is a stupid question but my slide on snap on battery just went dead on me and its out of warranty so what i was wondering is before i spend over 100 on just a new battery is there any other company that makes a battery that will work where a snap on slide on battery works.

Thank you

A ni cad battery can be rebuilt by most battery places, like Interstate. For the most part, the rebuilt battteries are better then the new battery, but I don't know how they compare to SO. SO batteries are panisonic cells and just seem to work better then other brands.

I went with the rebuilding route once with interstate since we have a guy that comes around and had a bad experience with it, the battery only lasted like half the time of a new one so before i go with that route or buying a new one i just wanted to see if any other brands would work.

Thank you

I would ask what brand of cells, and what capacity go into the rebuild. If they are name brand cells, they should work as well as the original. If they are no-names, then you have to wonder how long they will last.

You should be able to find what the capacity of the cells was originally. You want the new ones to be at least the same capacity, many times it is not much more money to increase to a higher capacity cell.

The best of NiCd batteries are made by Samsung, then Panasonic and before the noname ones is Sanyo. You could order batts. and rebuild yourself too. Then you will have quality.

You have that backwards. Sanyo is the leader in battery, then Panasonic, then Samsung.

The OEM batteries in my Snap On Nicad batteries were Sanyo. They are some of the most sought after cells anywhere and is certainly not a no-name brand. In fact they are the largest manufacturers of rechargeable batteries. The price they sell for is very high compared to the competitors.

Dewalt swapped their A123 cells in their 36v lineup for the Samsung cells, and they ended up with a lot of angry customers. Less run-time, plus they don't hold up as well.

How much did you spend on the rebuild? Most rebuilds I see cost around $50-60. I tend to stay away from those unless they provide you details on what cells they use. Good battery cells cost money, and even more if you decide to jump to a higher capacity. If I can get a decent Panasonic battery pack for $60 out the door, then it's a steal. However, I have yet to see anyone provide that kind of rebuild at that price.

Just buy a brand new battery pack. Cost a bit more, but it leaves the guesswork out of the equation.
