Stupid Worm Drive Saw Blade Question

Maybe I'm just having a slow day but . . .

I recently purchased a Bosch 1677DC worm drive saw and I'm in the market for some blades - likely 24T and 40T Diablo blades. Here is the stupid question - why is there a worm drive specific version of the 24T blade? Is the only difference that the graphics/info is on the correct side for the reverse rotation of the worm drive saw? Why no 40T blade if that is the case?

Should I just buy the standard 24T and 40T Diablo blades and be done with it? (Yes, I think I can remember to install them "backwards" when I change them out)!

Thanks in advance,

Paul

That may be all it is. I know on my Skill HD77 the graphics are hidden. I use the 24T Diablo.

On the 40T, as long as it has the diamond knock out for the arbor it shouldn't be a problem.

I have the 40T set up on a Milwaukee 18V saw for trim work. I would think not many people put 40T blades on worms. The worm is not exactly for fine work if you know what I mean. It's not that it can't do fine work just as well it's that it is heavy.

Don't know about your Bosch, but my USA made skil hd77 has a diamond shaped arbor and the blade needs to have this also. The frued diablo blades I own have the diamond as a removable part with the standard hole in the middle so it would work with both designs.

Thanks to all for the confirmation . . . at 6'7" and 300 Lbs I'm not overly concerned with the weight - kinda like it actually.

Now to find the best Diablo prices, mmmm

Do you play offensive line? Yeah, the weight is a help so long as you cut downhill and allow the saw's weight to do the work.

I have the same saw and I bought an aluminum guide from Woodcraft that has clamps that fit along the bottom side of the guide. I can do very fine work with that saw using the guide. While not as fancy, it cost about half of the Festool that comes with a flat guide.

Since you recently bought the saw, don't forget to buy the proper oil (Home Depot has a tube of Skil branded oil) and check the oil frequently. My saw consumes quite a bit of oil with heavy use. Bosch should have included oil with the saw but did not.

As long as you have the diamond arbor punch-out you're good to go. The only difference is which side the graphics are printed, which will wear off soon enough.

Remember that the torque on the blade bolt determines the effectiveness of the safety clutch. Too loos and it will bog and slip. Too tight and you can get kickback or flying wood.

I have to mount the blades "backwards" on the two left handed PorterCable circular saws that I have. Even though I'm right handed, I prefer those thrown off left handed ones.

I DO perform the sacred blade ritual first to prevent the curse though. Don't forget to do this...

Would that be the Bosch WD7RIP Worm Drive Rip Fence?

Aftermarket?

Thanks again, Paul

Edited to add - Yes, I did get 4 tubes of the oil (skil branded - Bosch doesn't even try to hide the fact that the saws probably come off the same assembly line) and even checked the oil before applying power the first time!

Hey Paul,

I bought an aftermarket fence from Woodcraft. It's also compatible with my laminate trimmer and routers. It has clamps that attach underneath to give precise positioning.

My saw uses a surprising amount of oil so I check it before each use.
