I've been a long time lurker but this is my first post. I need to purchase a best man gift. My friend has been a groomsman twice before and received a pocket knife and nice flashlight from those. I would like to get him something he can use. I was originally going to buy him a 3/8 snap on ratchet as that's probably one of my most used tools but I've decided the price is a little out of my reach. Long story short my budget is $50 and I'd like to get him something that will last the rest of his life. I know my budget makes that a little difficult. A recent thread on here made me consider a set of haze screwdrivers. His hobbies are restoring Coleman lanterns and shooting. He also works on his own cars trucks and tractors. Any ideas are appreciated.

How about an engraved Gerber or Leatherman?
A Leatherman is on my list of ideas right now. I like their quality and they're made in America. I have some older Gerber that were great. I also have some newer ones and I'm not that impressed with their current quality. More importantly he's a bit of a knife snob and loves his benchmade. I'd like to get him something he'd use. I'm afraid an engraved Gerber would end up in a drawer.

He might have a Coleman flask already but if not, get him one and get it engraved.

Yes you can get fancier ones but if that's his thing I would think he's prefer it over a fancier one.

Some other 'traditional' gifts are bottle openers, cufflinks, tie pins, collar stays, a 'travel' or compact bar keeper's kit, tie with dirty words/photos on the lining, with or without pocket kerchief, time pieces, glasses case (wouldn't have thought but I've seen two guys get one in my college days so who knows) just to give you some ideas. Most of these have some sort of personalization/monogram/engrave and most of them have dirty words (those are the best gifts usually) so you kind of know what you're up against.

Me personally I'd have preferred a good knife over most of that stuff.

Perhaps a customized shop apron? Kind of random. But ive got one and it comes in handy when cleaning my chainsaws with compressed air. Or any garage activity i suppose. Just an idea

I f*cking love those pens. I've used the same one for the past 10 years on flight logs, thousands of patient reports; put it through the washer a couple dozen times by accident and it still works like new has never ever leaked. Will most people appreciate such a finely made instrument? No, not unless they actually carry a pen on them and use it every day(I'm also a pilot, it's how I found out about these originally).
Also, if your friend is really a knife snob he should be carrying a Sebenza, not a Griptillian:D.

Thanks for the ideas everybody. I think right now I'm leaning toward a leatherman, the hazet screwdriver set or snapon ratchet from eBay.
