Sub panel location

Greetings all,

I have a 20' × 10' workshop that I am going to start wiring soon. My first question though is if this location is suitable per TN code to put the panel to the left of this window. Counting from the window, the framing of the window being stud #1, I would put the panel between the 2nd and 3rd stud. The only thing I've found so far says I have to have 30 inchs of clearance left to right.

Don't put it over the bench. Needs to be unobstructed for 3' in front. Plus working in it would be a real pain in the ***. Put it on that left wall, after the bench

There is no minimum height of a panel, there is maximum height of the operating handle of circuit breakers though, which I think is 6'7'', but that is subject to correction. putting it where there are obstructions is a no go, but putting it low is a really, really bad idea, a ideal location is behind a door so **** cannot be piled in front of a panel

What is the 6'6" height relative to? The top of the panel? Or is that ceiling height where it is located?

Don't confuse installation height of the panel with working space around the panel.

Easiest way to envision the working space requirement (for this voltage level) is you must be able to put an imaginary box with dimensions of: 30”w x 36”d x 78” h in front of the panel. The plane of the panel door determines the start of the 36” depth requirement. The door must be able to open 90 degrees, left-right requirements in front of panel are met.

Can you put the panel outside? That solves lots of wasted space in a small shop.

The empty stud bay between the black toolchest and the bench would work. Whether you put things there later on is up to you. Many many panels around the country have trash cans etc in front of them and the police don't come knocking. Use common sense.
