Hoping someone can help me out, I plan on running 6/3 aluminum armoured ACWU wire (http://www.southwire.com/products/ACWU90.htm) out to my garage sub-panel. My question is what does everyone do for penetrations at house (through concrete) and at garage (through exterior wall panelling)?
At the house is it easiest to drill out a hole in the foundation large enough for the cable and run the cable directly through the wall and seal with some expanding foam? Do I need a pvc sleeve to protect the cable? Does the penetration have to be above grade? I was going to skip using a PVC LB because the hole will be right around grade level and half the LB will be buried anyways.
At the garage I do plan to use PVC pipe from the trench up to a pvc LB at the wall above grade but below where the panel will be mounted on the inside. There is only some thin exterior wood paneling and drywall on the inside to go through, no insulation. After drilling through the panelling and drywall, am I to use another LB on the inside in the opposite direction up to the sub-panel? What is the common practice for bottom feeding a panel while going through the exterior sheathing and drywall? Panel will be surface mounted to plywood.
Finally, taking into account that the armoured cable doesnt bend all that well, I was planning on stripping the armour and exposing the 3 conductors and ground at the first LB at the garage and running just the conductors the rest of the way through the second LB and up to the panel. Any issues with this?
