Sub Panel Placement

In image, a wall/hall will come towards camera where the 2x is leaning.

Should sub panel go into first cavity or second?

First means door on panel can't open all the way but will open more than 90 degrees. In this location wires will be easier to pull in crawl space.

Second cavity allows door to open further. Placement my look a bit odd although neither will allow it to be centered. This cavity also lands near corner in crawl space which will make wire pulling a tad more difficult.

Where would you place it? Any code considerations?

Whichever one suits you is fine just as long as you have the required clearances side to side and in front.

Speaking from experience....

If it's in the corner....all the wiring has to go past that door...or through the ceiling joists...

I'd put it on the other side of the door away from the corner.

Note that in the diagram pattenp posted, the panel does not have to be centered in that 30 inch wide space - so, as far as adequate working space goes the panel could be right up against the corner as long as there's 30 inches of space from the corner.

Behind a door is often a good location for a panel, since it prevents people from piling up stuff in front of it.

Thank you all, very useful. I considered your recommendation also, Iron croa, and may end up that route. I've got the "lined up/centered" OCD thing pretty bad.
