sub panel question

Hello

I have a 200 amp 3 phase breaker (square d)

I want to create a 150 amp sub panel - but the largest plug in breaker SD makes is 100 amp

How do i get 150 amps out of the 200 amp breaker panel and over to the 150 amp breaker panel?

IF the largest plug-in breaker made is 100a, only other option I can think of is a tap. cBe sure to follow the rules dependent on location.

what are your loads?

Do you really need 150a?

Have you done a load calc?

My guess is you have your eyes set on that really nice 150A panel with lots of spaces to use for a sub and assume you need a 150A breaker in the main to feed it. Not true. You can feed that 150A subpanel with any size circuit you want (not over 150A, obviously). You size the breaker based on the wire feeding the panel which is based on how much load you really have/need. Which brings us back to Wylies questions ^

I'm slowly building out a machine shop so it's a weird set up

one of the machines this is 300 amp Miller synchro wave that at its maximum would take 150 amp breaker

but it would be unusual to have many things running at one time

I wouldn't also be running a mill, running a lathe running, a grinder et cetera

and I cannot imagine welding very long at maximum power

having said that it would be nice to be able to have that capability over on that side of the shop and that's the reason sub panel

I think the problem is solved because there is a 3 pole snap on breaker in 150 amp size that square D used to make and there is new old stock available

There is no way close that welder needs a 150 amp breaker to run it.

Yeah like I said I really doubt I'd ever be maxing it out for any period of time but since I'm wiring it up for the first time I figured why not be able to Max it out if i ever need to

That is a homeline and the OP did not specify whether he needs homeline or QO...

EDIT: OP also said 3 phase and there is no 3 phase homeline equipment.
