If you are feeding the 200A panel from another panel with a 100A breaker, then the 200A breaker in the second panel is only acting as a disconnect and does not need to be removed.

If you are feeding the 200A panel directly from the meter with a 100A service, then you need the 100A breaker in the 200A panel...

I used a 200A panel at my place with a 100A service; I used a 100A breaker to backfeed the panel (with a retention kit) and I just pulled out the 200A breaker to save for when/if I upgrade to a 200A service.

The cover in my panel came with the knockout in place for the main breaker, so I just never removed it.

Edit: you really should probably start another thread at this point...

Sorry, I just wanted to clear things up and I did what you did but left the preinstalled 200a breaker in there labeled "Not in use".

Over and out for good.

So you bought a 30 space panel, but only want to install 6 circuits? Doesn't make sense. I know that before you are done, you will have more installed. Why not just buy the main breaker kit that attaches where the lugs are, and be done with it?

Charles

Been a while but I am back adding circuits this weekend and will need to get ready for the main breaker kit. Anyone have a part number or suggestion for a main breaker for this panel? I'm using a homc30uc panel and will need a 60a main breaker.

can I just get a standard double pole 60a breaker and hook my feed wire to it to feed the panel?
