Sub panel wire placement in box

I am installing a sub panel in the garage and I was told by someone to run the service wire directly into the rear of the box through a knock out on rear of box so it is clean install. Is this good idea or should it be through top or bottom of box knock outs?

Wire is coming from the house through underground conduit that surfaces at garage on outside wall parallel with wall of garage and then I will put a LB on the conduit and cut hole in block wall with piece of conduit through wall to inside then to the box which is right there.

That will work just fine, dont forget it needs to be a four wire feed, seperate (Isolate) the neutrals and grounds in your sub panel and add 2 driven ground rods and tie that into your ground bar

Yes I got 4 wires going in from main panel. The ground rod was another question should I get the solid copper ground rod from Lowe's drill hole and drive it into the ground and hook ground there?

Yes, solid 5/8" ground rod, you need to drive two for a sub panel, they need to be at least 6' apart from each other. I have a ground rod adapter for my big hammer drill, its the best way to drive a ground rod. If you know anyone that has one you could borrow?? Need one continuos piece of # 6 wire from the ground bar to your ground rods, I use green # 6 copper.
