So my brother is building a pole barn type house and his main panel is on the far wall of the barn section, the house section is on the other end. He wants to run a sub panel in his mechanical room about 50 foot from his main panel. He will be running the house off the sub panel so he will need several 220 circuits. What size wire will he need to run from the mail panel.

Thanks for any info.

Without any idea of what loads are planned, that question cannot be answered.

I would run 2 feeders/subpanels off the main not daisy chain the subpanels- one for house, one for mechanical.

As to the size of wire, we have no way of determining that without knowing what loads there will be.
