Has anyone used a fabric between the stone floor (crusher run) and the bare ground?
I will be putting down 6" of stone and then concrete with cuts for relief. I've been told two different stories.
1) To use it cuz the stone will sink in the soil and the fabric will prevent sinking and the concrete from cracking.
2) There is no point since the floor will be cover by concrete at a later date a few months later and no problem of sinking will arise.

Now the garage is in a damper part of the lot, but water does not stand.

You'll want to compact the soil before putting down the stone, if anything. This should eliminate the sinking stone. I've never heard of putting down fabric before the stone, but it might not be a bad idea.

Just remember to put down a vapor retarder (the thicker the better) on top of the stone if you plan on coating the concrete with epoxy or covering it with tile, etc.

Make sure that all to “top soil” is removed first, then spread large crushed stone, preferably 1’s and 2’s before the foundation is dug. Fabric can be placed under the crushed stone in low and wet areas for better results; but it can add a lot of money to the project. After the foundation is dug and the 1's and 2's had a chance to settle, put a layer of finer locking crushed stone that is compacted. By all means place a 6 mil viscreen vapor barrier on top.

It would be an extremely wise idea to place 4” diameter drain tile around the outside of the footer. For best results for a dry garage, I’d also place drain tile along the inside of the foundation. The drain tile should be placed holes down on 4” of smooth river stone with a pitch of 1/8” per foot fall toward the drain. Then covered with a foot or so of river stone. Covered by clean fill dirt grated at least a foot above the surrounding grade. The drain tile can be tied into the same storm sewer lines as the gutter downspouts along with some yard drains that may be needed.
