I need to replace the original toyo tires (95K, cant complain) on my 17' forester before winter. The Not available anymore made me get in gear and look for tires.

Tire rack has the size i need in 16" wheels, and I have have been thinking about switching to 16" rims any ways. So I was thinking of just having new steel wheels/tires/tpms sent to my house.

That however prompts what to do about the TPMS sensors.

My family has a subaru fleet but my wife and I have been thinking of a dodge durango for the space in the future when this craziness in the economy is over.

So the subarus from what I gather just cant use the cheap relearn tools, must be uploaded through the obd2 port.

My current scan tool is an Innova, top of their line when purchased in 2017 but still not very capable in the grand scheme of things.

I know that laptop based scan tools and obd 2 dongles have changed things up drastically since then and the autel and 100 other brand touch screen scan tools are prevalent as well now.

It seems there are a lot of options in the 200-250 dollar range but there is so much chaff to wade thru.

What are some recommendations now? I would probably prefer a laptop software solution but I am open to others. This is for me and my family/friends only.

Newer Mopar stuff is tough to do with a scan tool today without a subscription, the Secure Gateway Module prevents you from making changes you can read codes but not perform special functions or bidirectional control, including clearing codes and changing sensor ids.

You can of course have the new sensors cloned and then use the procedure in the owners manual to relearn the positions.
Autel is one brand that can do TPMS and bidirectional control but you are hitting the $800+ price range.

Get a quality bluetooth OBD2 reader and buy AlfaOBD for $50. It is amazing what you can do to a Mopar. I use OBDlink MX+. Alfa won't help on your Subaru but it's a damn fine tool.

There is a helluva thread over at Dodge Ram Forum to get you up to speed with AlfaOBD.
