Subaru Question--What is This?

The vehicle is a 2009 Forester XT. What is this removable plug? Why would it be removed when replacing an airbag?

For shifting out of park if battery is dead. Maybe tech disconnected battery when working on airbag and wanted to move it without reconnecting battery....for obvious reasons.
