Subfloor Question

So as part of my attached garage there is a mudroom between the house and the garage. The contract made the elevation of the mudroom about 1/8"less than the subfloor in the house. The house is getting 3/4 hardwood floor. The mudroom is getting linoleum. I plan to add 3/4 plywood to the mudroom to get the elevation close to the same when all is finished. The current subfloor is run perpendicular to the the floor joists. Is there any benefit to running the second layer perpendicular to the first? Due to the room shape it is less work to run it the same direction as the current flooring.

Plywood is stronger running perp to floor joist, if it runs the same direction the span will be spongy between the joist. You might be okay to run a second layer parallel to the joist. To me a couple passes with a circ saw is well worth having it good and solid. Just be sure the seams fall in different places than the first layer.

I'm assuming this mudroom is small and already has 5/8 or 3/4 on it. Adding 3/4 in any way you want should not make a difference either way. Just make sure the edges land on studs. screw the **** out of it and some construction adhesive for good measure.

I'd use T&G plywood so you don't have to worry about lipage between the sheets.

Mudroom is 19x13. Has 3/4 T and G already down perpendicular to the joist. Getting a second layer to correct the height issue. I can staggar all the seams and run it the same direction as the current flooring.
