Ok guy's finally got the rod in the ground and attached to the new panel. I should have been done with this a while ago, I know, but RA is a *****, and the flare ups keep coming. Anyway, Reading again thru the forums, and came across a question that might pertain to me. Will I need to ground out the metal building itself, besides grounding the subpanel? And if so, how would I do that?....

Thanks again.......

How is your panel mounted to the building? Plywood backer or directly to the metal?

I built a 2 x 4 frame in between the metal joist's and its attached to a plywood backer board. So the panel is not attached to metal. The panel is grounded to a 8 foot grounding rod via a # 6 grounding wire....

I would bond your building steel to your panel then. You want the building frame bonded so that if the building becomes energized, the breaker of the faulting circuit will trip...without the bond, there is no low resistance path for fault current...

So wyliesdiesels, when you say bond the building to the panel, is it just a question of attaching a #6 copper wire to the metal frame itself then to the ground bar in the panel?
