I used the years of experience of the builder to move this along quickly. I would have over killed this step!

view from the road:

Grandson Nic was the electrician on the job. New power line coming from road pole, to the back of the new shop then, to the house.

Our son Eric knows the work ahead!

Him and I put the double pressure treated skirt board around the base. These were closed up with a PT 2x6 in between them at the bottom.

Sure we had rain:

Greatgrandson Cooper helps build the lambeams for over the 12 foot wide doors on the eave sides of the shop.

These were kind of a after thought but I designed supports for them and they are lagged to the original headers. I wanted this additional support! I did not want a heavy snow load to sag these door openings!;

Also they brought the door opening to the correct height:

Contractor starting first sheeting! Whoooo! I put in 9 windows 8 down stairs and one smaller in the north end of the loft.

10'-2" eave height is short for some folks. This shop was big and I didnt want it to over power the house. It probbaly did that anyway??

The windows are nice, I like the natural light, But they do interrupt wall space that might be used for storage?

An old man in the north 16 foot wide doorway:

cutting out man doors. The double closed in skirt boards will be filled with foam insulation and capped with another 2x6.

Yes we have trusses, three types, end wall, scissors, and loft area trusses. On 2 foot centers. Cost was double compared to a standard 40 foot flat bottom truss system. But 4 years later I do not regret going with the custom truss confiqurations.

layout and hole for the jib crane, dang I hope we get this in the right spot!

3' dia and 6 foot deep with 1 foot of poured concrete base to anchor rebar and set the jib post:

House wrap this puppy!

Contractor starting on shingles, Used a gray color to blend with the aged green on the other two buildings.

Last shingle for roof cap ( another story on that later) and digging for the power and water to come from and to the new shop to the house:

Talk about a redneck build! This is how we relaxed

Main entrance for power being installed:

Picked up the outside lower wall material. 1 inch hemlock, milled shiplap 10 inches wide. This was aged several months

Prototyping the siding look and design: vinyl above, hemlock wanescotting below:

Our two boys teamed up the work on windows and siding

Trim details around the garage doors: Used Azack (sp) and vinyl brick molding to minimize long term maintenance

That's a cool building you will have there. And you're right, there's a lot of tiny fussy stuff to do before you can put the actual siding up. But once you're at it the siding goes up fast.

North end of shop with 16 wide x 9 foot high door

Here we were waiting on one window to be built!

Ok here we go again, yea I took a lot of pictures

We have concrete

Saw cuts

Several maple leaf imprints in the wet concrete

Cutting insulation to fill in the skirt board area

Yes my wifes grandmothers GT a 8HP Massey Hydro. Nice for the great grand kids.
Been busy with a new toy. Here are some additional pictures as the shop progressed.
Bought a 2 ton lift for the jib crane. Sure it needed rebuilt, thats normal but it sure works well!
