Topic says all. i'm just looking for one that i can trust while laying under a vehicle. I have a 4x4 truck and low cars so a low profile and quick rise would be great. I've looked at the ones at harbor freight but i don't know if i trust them to hold up a few 1,000 lbs above me head :eyecrazy:

I have this 1.5 one from sears, bought it years ago. It has trouble jacking up my heaver stuff but i like it's wide stance and large saddle.

If you are a Costco member, I think they sell Arcan (or rebrand) for a good price, with the lifetime warranty from Costo... ;)

The HF Daytona is nice and big... Though for jackstands I'm paranoid and eventually plan on getting those beefy 22-ton jackstands with like the 1" pin... They might be a little over $150 but that's still less than a trip to the emergency room...

I use HF 2.5 ton Pittsburgh floor jack and HF 3 ton jack stands. After lowering the vehicle onto the jacks, I always raise the floorjack back up to the point where it is just beginning to bear some load. There would have to be failures in both support devices in order for the vehicle to fall. This works only if you need to lift one side - which is all I ever need to do.

But you'll trust the same jack with a different color that says "Craftsman" ??

Besides the obvious "don't trust any jack to hold up anything above you" (since, you did mention in the title that you're looking for jack stands), don't get hung up on brand name.

The only issue with an HF jack *MIGHT* be it's longevity. As in, the jack might not last the rest of your life, and become some desirable used commodity on Craigslist once it's 50-75 years old.

I've got the 1.5 ton HF race jack (the one that's identical to your Craftsman job), and I've got the 3 ton low profile. Both work great, and I've had them both for several years now, no issues.

If I didn't have those, and 3 others, I'd be inclined to give the Daytona a chance as well.

If you're still irrationally turned-off to HF, any of the other suggestions in this thread are good, too. The Arcan 3.5xl/3.25xl is a great jack (have one of those, too).

Sunex makes quality stuff. OTC Stinger jacks are good, too.

Followed your link. The KTI only lifts 19 1/4". That is poor for a 3 ton. The Hein Werner 3 ton lifts 23". Even the Hein Werner 2 ton lifts 20". For a truck, height is another consideration besides lift capacity. My 2 ton HW has always easily lifted my 4x4's but the extra lift would have been nice.

I agree that you need more lift capacity but a jack is for lifting the vehicle onto stands, not for crawling under it. It should never be the primary support. I guess it depends on what you buy as far as lift capacity but my Hein Werner 2 ton has easily lifted both of my 4x4's. Make sure you get a decent amount of lift height. It matters on a truck. As for jack stands, while 3 tons may hold it, they are very small and will not have enough height for a truck or would be over extended and the small bases can be unstable. I agree that you shouldn't go cheap on safety but the 3 and 6 ton HF cheapo stands have served me well for years. Vehicles have been left on them for long periods with no problem. I saw the one in Costco and it looked pretty beefy. HF is pushing their new Daytona pretty hard as an equivalet to Snap On. I sorely doubt that but it might be O K for home use. It is a step up from their other jacks.

I've had that jack for years back when i thought craftsman was a decent brand. I was just in harbor freight and i saw the 3 ton daytona jack it looked really nice it was $199 without any discounts. They also had a pittsburgh 3 ton aluminum racing jack for $169.

I do have a costco membership.

I admit i have used only a jack to do oil changes. I know it's not safe and a dumb thing to do.

Oh, I'm not knocking the brand. I've got a ton of Craftsman stuff. Just pointing out that it's an import jack, and very likely sourced at the same manufacturer. It's no better or worse than the equivalent HF jack, and despite the sentiment of some posters here, there's really no reason to turn up your nose at HF.

Here's a coupon for it at $179.99:

Expires at the end of the month, so you've only got a few days left...

I was the same way until I almost dropped my car on top of me about 7-8 years ago...

Jackstands are cheap insurance.

I have that exact same jack, I bought it 10 or so years ago. Still going strong, I did renew the hyd fluid a few years ago, just because.

"i'm just looking for one that i can trust while laying under a vehicle."

I never use only a jack to support anything I'm under, my jack stands are always there. I dont care who makes it, where its made, or the tonnage its rated at. **** fails...

I have had the 3 ton HF low profile for maybe 7 years and have used it extensively. I have a 3/4 ton extended cab Sierra with a leveling kit so bought it for its height. I also use it on the wife's suv. It's an awesome jack and I have no complaints at all. I'm sure that Craftsman is made in China or Mexico too. I don't buy a whole lot from hf but I'd recommend the jack. I do think there are a handful of things from there that a decently built atleast for the price.. Like already mentioned, it's not the jack that holds up the vehicle while you're under it, it's the jack stands. I too leave a little tension on the jack as back up. If you're worried about crawling under it use the money saved on the hf jack and buy a good pair of tall heavy duty jackstands. I wish I would've gotten a taller set of stands. I always have to put blocks of wood under mine because of the leveling kit. I think I bought the stands at Farm and Fleet and they are also made it china.

Even high end brand Hein Werner is ownd by Shinn Fu and manufactured here from American parts and parts from their Chinese factory. I believe there are one or two smaller high end companies that still manufacture here, like USJack.

You can't put blind trust on floor jacks and jack stands, from any brand, no matter where it was made, especially if you are going to lie under the car.
Always use precautions, like use tires as cushion, leave the jack there to support.

It's very low tech tools. Any brand of jacks and stands on the market are safe to use if you use precautions. Craftsman, HF, ....
