I just got the gearwrench set with the non XP ratchet and I like it. Great deal from Advance Auto with the coupon codes. I have a decent amount of gearwrench and they seem to be really good for the money.

I have sets of both of these 'mid-price' brands and I agree 100%. I love my SK mid-length sockets. The Wright deeps I have are thicker, and are fine but not as nice as the SK. One set I have is pre-Ideal, the other is post-Ideal and they are both good. Of course I didn't get out my loupe and check for chipping paint on the inside of each socket - instead I put them right to work and got them greasy.

Snap-on is good if you can find used, the Williams USA too, but really hard to find (mail-order only).

For 1/4", SK wins. Great sockets with nice thin walls. I wouldn't give mine up for any other brand at any price. Never had to use the warranty.

Wright is good too but the sizes are more limited.

Sk's warranty is great so far. I broke a set of needle nose and they sent me a new one. Some trucks will warranty sk as well.

For 1/4" you're not applying much force. Aside from socket fitment issues, I'd say any name brand set is sufficient. Having said that, sk would be an excellent choice, as would a used snap on set, or a Williams set. Heck craftsman wouldn't be that bad either if you want a low end set.

Facom R.NANO? Great set, not too expensive :)

I have three Facom 1/4" socket sets... and they are superb. Very strong and
a flawless finish... and to add, the Facom pear head RL.161 ratchet that comes
with the new sets is the nicest 1/4" ratchet I've used... 72 teeth, smooth and
a very compact design.

As the title says, I am currently shopping for a good deal for a 1/4" socket set. Pref with a Ratchet, SAE+Metric shallow and Deep set. Best i could find so far was a Williams set on Amazon and a used Proto set on Ebay. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

As for Price point, like the title says Mid level.

I have a 1/4 williams set off amazon that serves me very well. I woukd reccomend any williams or sk set that is in your price range.
