Not sure if Harbor Freight has one or not, but for all 1 time use tools I try them. Typically their staplers/nailers are dirt cheap too.

Search CL for used Senco or Hitachi which are both top quality. My brother carpenter used Senco 1" crown for roofing houses for decades & worked great. Some areas now require nails for roofs, so staples used for more wood projects. Funny as never had any shingle blowoff problems in "tornado alley" with the many roofs we've done with the 1" crown staples.

OP, next round of good staplers would include Bostitch & Porter Cable.

Another good brand is Paslode.

MORE Info regarding Senco:

Ran across this website that had pretty good prices on Senco nailers and staplers. Will give you an idea of new versus used pricing.

Of course you'll also want to search Amazon and Ebay (new & used).

There are always two things to consider with staplers which are performance and compatibility. You can get a great performing nailer with only 1 brand of fastener to choose from and I have seen in the past everyone is out of stock except the one place that sells them for 3x the price. Or they phase out that style and your factory's 6 expensive staplers are now useless.

For wide crown staples I get a gun that shoots Arrow T20's, those and Bostitch are pretty much what we could call industry standard nowadays. HF has a gun that shoots those (though ironically the staples HF sells for their gun are not the right size), as does Sears last I looked. Surebonder sold at Northern should too but I have not tested this one.

I have not had any issues with my HF 20ga stapler and would recommend it. If you get an 18ga stapler, their brad nailer/stapler is a better stapler than their standalone stapler. fwiw.

Nailers have this issue but to a much lesser extent. Staples are a lot more manufacturer specific.

For 40 staples Id rent one-
edit: opps saw you already ordered.
I had need for one, maybe 20 staples. Have no problem buying one time tools-but couldnt justify the cost (and was in a hurry). Since, though if I had it on hand I could have used again, wished Id just bought.

I have been in your shoes with odd ball, one time use tools. For doing it once and only 40 nails, could it not be done with another fastener or by hand?

I wish we are attaching 2x2 side by side needs to be joined at the top and bottom only and must remain some what flex able thought about using plumbers tape and screwing it together but it did not work

I have not seen 1" crown staples long enough to go through a 2x2. Generally they were for roofing. Some with narrower crowns may be long enough but even then I am not sure. Could you bolt them through, or use lags, or use T-nuts and machine screws?

Maybe not the reason for the requirement, but I would not use staples, because in the event of removing old shingles it is very hard to remove the staples. One roofer that I talked to said that he charges more to remove shingles that have been stapled.

interesting, haven't seen 1" staples used in a very long time. they used to be more common on cheaply built homes, but I think around here they are no longer to code as literally nobody uses them anymore. I have ripped apart pallets put together with some 5/8 or 3/4 staples that were pretty darn long, so maybe there is still an industrial application/

for putting your 2x2's together, can you use romex staples hand tapped in? SKotch fasteners? trim some truss plates? maybe try some boat/canoe building forums, those guys that do strip building staple strips together all the time...
