I borrowed my neigbors extension ladder to paint my garage, he is semi-retired and later asked me if I wanted to just buy the ladder from him. I just wanted to get ya'lls opinion on what to offer him.

The specs are:
-24' Fiberglass extension ladder
-Type 1A (300 lb cap)
-10 or 15 yrs old
-Great shape
-Heavy as $%**

The Ladder is in pretty good shape for having been stored out side. The pull rope needs to be replaced but that is all. The fiberglass still retains its full strength. The cleets still look new etc blah blah....

He said he bought it about 10-15 years ago for $160.
I priced new ones for 220$.

Wudda ya think?

:rolleyes2

Give him a case of beer for it.

With it being 10-15 years old and stored outside I wouldn't exactly consider it valuable. How much will you be using it?

I finally finished school and got out of collage housing, therefore I currently do not own an extension ladder just a 7' step so I was actually going to buy a 22'-24' sooner or later. I hate buying brand spanking new when most used is often just as good. Clearly I need an extension.

I just bought the house about 8 mo ago and I am SLOWLY upgrading so between raingutters and garage upgrades I will probably be using it anywhere from maybe once or twice to a whole lotta abunch.

Give him $75 for it. I would. You could probably pick it up for cheaper, but it would be worth it to me. It depends how good of a friend/neighbor he is to you. I will buy something from a friend for higher than I would someone random. And if he is a good buddy back, he will probably say "Just give me $50."

Yeah, about $75-80 sounded about right to me too. Sounded fair to me, and he is a good neighbor and doesn't complain about my trailer of truck parts sitting between our drivways so I wanted to be fair to him too :bounce:

I offered him $80 and he accepted

Thanx for the info, helped feel better about the offer.
