Suggestion for Classified

I'd like to suggest a rule change to the classifieds section sticky. I'd like it be requested that when sellers edit their posts for pending and/or completed sales that they leave the price in. This way, someone could search and get a feel for what the market price is for a particular item (assuming something similar has been sold in the past).

This is the rule on several other boards that I frequent and I think it would be an improvement here. Of course, I don't want anyone thrown off for deleting the price when something is sold-I simply think that people delete the price, not realizing that it might be useful info down the road for someone else.

I myself appreciate it when people do this, since it helps me the same way it would help you.

That being said, I don't think we can make it a rule, which suggests a consequence if not followed.

Instead of starting a new topic, I will try to use this one. Can it be in the rules that PMs or Thread Replies trump the other, preferably thread replies. I have seen deals in the past go bad and people get angry because "I replied to the thread," "Yea, but I PMed him".

This way, a sort of line will form, and unless the seller is someone we don't want here, business can be conducted in a more formal fashion.

I think that in this situation, the seller sets the rule. If he wants thread replies first, he should state so, or be clear that he wants PMs first. If he outlines which form of communication he will hold in higher regard for claiming an item, then everyone knows ahead of time and can't complain if they are beaten to the deal.

I've had that happen to me personally, that someone replied 1st and someone else who PM'd 1st got sore with who was getting the deal. For that reason, I usually state in my ads that the 1st person that replies (judged by the GJ time stamp) via EITHER PM or post with a definite "I'll take it" is the one that wins. I've not had a problem since.

Honestly, I don't understand why people PM their questions/offers. If you want it and post as such, there wouldn't be a problem. Unless I'm missing something.

Nice.... I never thought about that Scam, Err.. I mean negotiating tactic. Next time i see something i want, Im gonna Lowball the Seller because tools here in Po-dunk Misery are cheaper than anywhere else and the same goes for the Buyer. Im gonna need your location because i want to make sure im getting fair market value for my tools based on your location.

Leaving the price will only let you know how much the item was listed for. I think most people negotiate through PM's not posts. It's a starting point, but not real accurate.

My last four transactions were all negotiated. I'm sure I'm not the only one. That's what OBO means.

I've said this before, not because of the price disparity, but I think the least a seller can do is indicate what state he's in, or if he's in Canada, etc. I love it when someone is selling a Snap On KRL and has no location listed. As if there's no difference between a possible buyer in the next town over and one on the other side of the country for an item like that.

Another thing is this...when someone replies in a thread saying they're sending a PM, SPECIFY THE ITEM YOU'RE SENDING THE PM TO THE SELLER ABOUT SO OTHERS KNOW IF YOU HAVE DIBS ON THE ITEM. Lately, I see people posting, SENDING PM. Well, that doesn't mean sh/t to me since I have no idea what you're interested in and whether the item is still open to everyone.

In response to the earlier suggestion, almost always the seller requests that anyone interested in an item post in the thread first, THEN PMs the seller. That makes the most sense to me.

Its Simple.. Sometimes i price stuff Low because i want to move it "Fast", Ive seen and Sold New F80's anywhere from $55 shipped to $68. Im not in the business of creating a Price guide for Members to Use as Negotiation towards me. If you need to know the price of something do the research. The Classifieds always take care of themselves.. Plain and Simple, Why we have some members who feel the need to interject rules and specialized conditions beyond me. If you see a thread where there have been 700 views and "ZerO" responses theres a good chance the OP's stuff is overpriced.

The market does work well. I had some vintage sets priced at what I hoped they'd sell for. After lots of views and no bites, I lowered the prices until I did get bites. It seemed pretty simple.
