Suggestion for the gallery section?

This is a great site but the gallery section is very frustrating. I love seeing other peoples workspaces and getting ideas.But..,....
Having everybody's garage pictures in threads makes it very time consuming and awkward to view the pictures. Sometimes having to trawl through lots of discussion to find pictures just turns me off and I give up. The threads move all over the place as well when people add new replies.

Would it be a better idea to arrange all the pictures in a kind of photo album like you see in the gallery section on other sites (e.g. lots of car forums). That way you could page through the pictures in thumbnail form and click on any ones you want to enlarge to have a closer look.

That for me would make the site perfect....

Luke had started one before the switch, not sure what happened to it. If I remember it was pretty time consuming for him to do it. I do think it is a good idea though. Maybe someone can make a sticky and moderate any "chatter" by deleting the posts with words? Just thinking out loud.

Hey guys, I'm brand new here too, but I was wondering if maybe it might be more effective to seperate the outside and "under construction" shots from the interiors.

Maybe have two different galleries. I have no idea how hard that is to do, I'm a heavy equipment operator and barely computer literate.

I know the pics of a slab being poured are very exciting to the owners and I'm excited for them, believe me nobody appreciates the fact that they're finally getting that garage they've always wanted more than me. But for example, I'm down to doing the interior on mine, so I'm looking for those trick cabinets, workbenchs, etc.

Having said all that, this is a great site and if you don't change a thing that's cool too, I'm definitely hooked. This is NOT a criticism at all, just an observation and suggestion. Keep up the good work!! Thanks

the issue with the photo gallery was the HUGE bandwith sucking. There was a gallery (on garage junkies) for a while and it used up all the bandwidth.

I'd love to see it back. I'd love to see separate galleries for shop interiors, shelving, cool tools, etc...

It wasn't actually gallery software though, was it? Are you referring to those coupla threads with oodles of photos in them? That would certainly **** up that bandwidth.

Proper gallery code would let people browse thumbnails to conserve bandwidth, and link to predefined image sizes such as 640 x 480. I use a decent free gallery myself.

Galleries can be setup to allow members upload privileges, but that has to be carefully managed in case some yahoo decides to abuse it.
