I really wasn’t sure of the type of patio before I installed the siding. I’ve calculated the cost and I’m going with concrete. I didn’t consider the vinyl siding placement since I had to match the siding on 2 sides. I wanted it to be parallel with the existing garage, so that’s where it ended up. I’m considering placing the concrete slightly below the siding. Under the door I’ll have a 2 inch gap to make up. I was thinking just a small ramp down the pad. I’m also considering an expansion strip against the vinyl straight across. Then I can pull the top strip off then caulk or just leave the strip. This is the north gable end with about 14 inch overhang and it doesn’t seem to get much rain on this side. What’s your suggestions? Thanks Craig IMG_3795.jpegIMG_3794.jpeg

I would not create a void where water and trash would collect.

Lowering the pad and then going with a step or a ramp would be my preferred option, if the siding can't be adjusted.

You definitely need space between the top of the concrete pad & the door sill, especially if the interior is finished living space. Also, you should support the sill better so when people or objects pass through & step on the aluminum the weight doesn't end up bending it downward creating a gap under the door. As for how to treat the area, I would simply pour the concrete at a uniform level right across, leaving the gap under the sill & incorporate something structural there to support it. Pressure treated wood under the sill will work but you will have to put something on the surface of the wood as a barrier. Pressure treated wood & aluminum shouldn't come in contact.

I’m not moving siding now. The door is an outdoor entry door and has inside ledge and seal to prevent water entry. I was thinking of a piece of composite decking or PVC brick moulding to support the sill. If I put concrete underneath I would use a sill sealer. Keep the suggestions coming.

Pull the door, pour a monolithic step the length of the sill or brick mold with the slab and reinstall the door. You’ll be happier in the long run.
