Suggestions for finishing...

Hey guys, long time lurker here, but can't thank you guys enough for all the valuable information I have gotten from here. Now I'm just looking for some opinions. I am in the process of finishing my attached 3 car. I'm going to use the 3rd car side as the "shop" side while the 2 car side will house the cars. I'm attaching a picture of the garage now, and a very simple plan I made on Sketchup. Any input or ideas is greatly appreciated. The red cylinder is the compressor, and the orange square is a snowblower (still learning how to use the program!) Thanks!

I vote for using all enclosed storage and getting rid of the open shelves. Looks like you have a decent space there.

I also vote for moving your compressor into a corner instead of being right in the middle of your longest wall. That's just my preference.

Thanks Scott, so something more along these lines-

Any suggestions for where I had the open shelving? I didn't want to put enclosed cabinets thinking that it would "hide" the door. the space underneath was going to be reserved for the lawnmower.

I like the second plan, but would add some pegboard...very handy stuff! For me, I would make the backer of the bench top pegboard and maybe a full sheet to the left of the door. Also, run shelves around the perimeter, level with the top of your cabinets (the 3 freestanding ones).

Good idea with the pegboard! I had planned on using some cork board or maybe a white board as well. I'm going to be building a car in the garage, so having things to write on or things posted in there will be beneficial to me.

I like the second as well except if the house is just inside the door, te compressor might be a little loud in the house.

Maybe another workbench along the back wall where the open shelves were would work? Everyone works differently.

Thanks guys, these ideas are really letting me think outside of the box. That door is just a man door to the back yard, actually the farthest point from the interior of the house. Maybe a small workbench that could sort of be the "tough" bench. Now if I could just figure out the lighting I would be all set. Any more suggestions guys, I'd love to hear them. I will be posting pics as I go along as well.

Well here is an update as promised. The garage as it sits now.....all this clutter will be cleaned up once cabinets are installed and I finally have a workbench again!

For those curious about stripes. I used a laser level and I tried out the new Frog Tape. Oddly enough it works quite well without any bleeding through. It didn't stick very well to the semi gloss wall, but when I lightly brushed the stripe color over the edges before rolling, it worked out quite well.

Nice job with the walls and painting. I like that Frog tape too. Used it exclusivily to stripe. Rubbed down the edges with my thumb nail, or used a burnishing tool. Never leaked a drop.
