I plan on finishing the wall and ceiling with drywall and paint the floor and concrete blocks with epoxy. I can not come up with a solution for the top of the blocks other that putting another treated 2x4 on the top and the run drywall over the top. That would not leave an attractive transition from drywall to the block. Has anyone already solved this or have suggestions. I have attached a blury photo of the area.

1x horizontal overhanging by an inch or so, molding underneath the 1x against the block, molding against the gyp on the 1x.

Over here....
You could use 8x16x2 concrete flat walkway stones cut length-wise. They could be mortared atop the small ledge with a small over hang or just flush to the edge of the block. Another option would be to use adhesive, but the gap would still need to be filled. These are the same material the cinder block is composed of. Then standard moulding could be used as the transition from wallboard to the top layer.

I used these atop a 8' x 8' concrete one layer high square foot garden surround to cover the ugly holes in the blocks.

The odd lengths or widths can be cut with a carbide blade wet or dry saw.

Diamond plate steel or aluminum
The same type aluminum trim used with siding
Fill the holes with morter and finish the top smooth
Plastic lumber like trex deck or the 1 x trim boards
leave em open for a place to hid your beer or drop sh&* into

raffaelli, I do not fully understand your suggestion or my photo did not provide enough detail. I attached a sketch of the area, I have about 4 1/4 inches of the block to cover and to match the height of the 2x6 that is on top of the block it would have to be a 2x. From what I understand of your suggestion, I could use a 2x and then voer the endge with trim, but the trim wouold have to be about 2 1/2 high.

you could make some shelving that would take advantage of this space.
you could even gain depth by getting into the depth of the wall.
you can store:
jack stands
folding chairs
paint
material stock
etc
