Im looking for suggestions for a sliding barn style door for a 10ftx10ft opening. Id like to keep the weight down. Im thinking of a wooden frame with metal siding. any thoughts? or experiences? The building is a 14x30 machine/wood shed, and I want one door, to cover one of the three bays at a time.

I would build the frame out of 2 x 6’s with rabbeted, overlapped joints.
Screwed and glued.
I used ¼ ply to provide some racking resistance.
If you do use something lighter you may need some kind of turnbuckles.

Gearman, The more wheel trucks you use the better. I had 4 on a 12' door.

You can build a strong and light door by using 1 1/2" foamboard, a 2x2 frame (actually 1 1/2 x 1 1/2) and glue 1/4" plywood on each side. If you're rolling the door on an overhead track, you can make the top of the frame heavier for strength. I built some smaller doors, 3 ft x 8 ft and they probably don't weigh more than about 25 lbs ea.

You can just buy all the corner brackets ,tracks, and hangers at any lumber yard that sells post barns. I added let-in diagonal corner braceing on mine,one on the inside,one under the steel sheeting. Build it,hang it, and get it working the way you want before putting the sheeting on,its a lot lighter that way.
