I also recommend the wall mount Shop-vac that ghnl referenced here...

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006NXIH26/?tag=atomicindus08-20

It is awesome!

For $100 bucks you get everything needed including a hose to reach most all of your garage, plus all types of sucking accessories. It's great! It's also easy to empty when full of dust and dirt. The only thing I don't like with what's in the box is that the hose is I think 18 ft or so. My garage is 30 ft long so I needed to get an an extention hose to reach the whole garage. I use the wide vacum accessory and hose extension to vacum my Racedeck Freeflow floor from time to time.
Overall, This shop vac is great! I highly recommend.

I've been considering a Vacu Maid GV50R Pro which comes with a 50' hose to reach my entire garage. Anyone own one of these units, I'm looking for feedback.

I don't know if it a great model but I have a Shop-Vac wall mount vacuum unit. It works well for my needs - general shop clean up, car cleaning, etc.

Guys, could you comment on (1) how well the 18-foot hose works regarding flexibility and reach, and (2) where the hose goes when not in use?

A photo would be terrific. Thx.

I just wrap the hose around the unit when not in use...
The hose is very flexible and as far as reach it really depends where you mount it. I wanted to reach my cars parked outside, and have the ability to vacum the garage floor so I mounted it between my garage doors.

I have a Metro vac that hangs on the wall. Works very well, and I've added an additional length of hose so I can go almost anywhere in the building.

I have two of these. One in the shop and one in the house garage. Hands down the best out there.

I am saving up for the Vacu Maid. A coworker has one which I've tried out, he absolutely loves it.

that's a sick set up -- what reel is that?

Coxreel...it is made for the vacuum. Amazon...a bit pricey...but works great. The fittings and hose hook ups are all the same as the vacuum hose size that comes with any wall vac.

That reel has about 100' so it can reach my whole garage...out to the driveways to clean boats...and to shop.

The reel next to it...has 250' of Goodyear 1/2" that basically can reach most of my property for airguns and tires...

When my wife renovated the house, she had an EZ-Flo built-in vacuum system installed. When I was picking up the vacuum unit, I got a second one for the garage. http://www.easyflo.com/
I built the vacuum pipes into the shop walls and added vacuum ports that activate the system. I like everything about this system, except one thing. I mounted the power unit in a corner, out of the way and servicing it is not as easy as it could be. I did install an exhaust vent to the outside and also added a vacuum connection in the adjoining carport.
I tried to use the built-in-vac to pick up chips at the milling machine and lathe, but this was a fail. There was some intermittent plugging at one section of the pipe. I now have a shop vac between the lathe and mil and the BI Vac is for the shop floor and vehicles in the carport.
I bought a slightly larger, 25 foot, swimming pool vacuum hose at a garage sale for $15. I turned out adapters on the lathe so this hose can be used on a domestic system.
