Any suggestions. Need it to work from about 150 feet away. And go through two standard wood frames walls.

Wife is preggers and if I want to go play in the workshop I need something like this as I never seem to notice my phone. Already made her pregnant waddle out there once in the rain when I didn't answer.

Both. Either my phone is on vibrate or its in my pocket and I just don't hear it. Plus if my hands are all dirty I'd rather get grease on a intercom button than my screen. That and it's just faster in my opinion

Since wifey is already preggy . . . . might want to check out Baby Monitors.

Not sure if they would reach 150 ft but it's worth try . . . . .
. . . . . and money you'd likely spend anyway.

oh they do. I used to listen to people on those all the time when I lived in a neighborhood. could pick up pretty much 1000 ft. away...make sure you leave it on as much as you can...good entertainment... :)

the baofeng's require a license to be legal, not that everyone does, but you could get a pair of those for around $50 and they work well. better than most GMRS/FRS radios...

I have a radio shack wireless FM intercom. Can't remember the price but I don't recall it being expensive. Garage is about 100 feet from house, and it has worked well for 10 + years. Just mount it to the wall and plug it in ..your good to go...but I believe the signal travels through the wiring between the house and garage.

Most new cordless landline phones have an intercom feature. I have a handset in the garage and the wife can page me from the house 150+ feet away.

Have you considered just using an app that would automatically change your ringer style? I use an app called IF by IFTT(if this, then that) and have a recipe set to automatically turn on wifi when I am within 600' of my house and turn it off when I leave. You could use a similar recipe to change your ringer style to annoying and full volume when you are in the shop. You could also have the app change the ring style when a particular number calls you.

I'd go with a cheap pair of FRS radios. Their range is plenty for what you're doing. Some are even waterproof (therefore washable).

no, it is FM. I have one. unfortunately only one, but took it apart to see if the frequency could be programmed into my baofeng. (it can't), but it is a radio, and the frequency code is based on the color coded sticker on the bottom. it's outside of the amateur bands. but if Radio Shack was still in business, they used to be a pretty good buy for $30 or so IIRC.

That's a pretty cool app! I think that could be a free solution to your problem. I wonder if you could set it up while on home wifi. And wife calls make it loud. I would hate to be at work an the phone rings at full blast b/c of the app.

Unfortunately, right now there isn't a native way to make a dual trigger recipe (If this and this, then that). However, if you really want it to happen you can use a work around with google spreadsheets.

For your situation though, just create a recipe that says to mute or set a lower ringer volume when you are within x feet of work. I've thought about using that one for church. Right now I have an app that changes my ringer to vibrate at certain times based on a schedule but that doesn't help for Lenten services, weddings and funerals.

This!! It's simple, easy, and can be up and running in no time.

I have the cordless landline phones all over my house, one in the garage and one in my shed. They work great and do indeed have an intercom system built into them.

You can buy a set for under 50 bucks. A simple set would come with a base unit and one or two mobile units.

My wife and I use them all the time to contact each other. She even likes the one out in the shed because now she says I can't hide from her anymore!

Also, the free app Voxer is perfect for this too. Works just like a walkie and also records the messages so you can replay if you don't hear it the first time. Also let's you text and send pictures. I realize the "greasy fingers" part but you only have to push the single "record" button to start recording/sending your voice.
