So firstly, this isn't the typical, 'what brand epoxy should I use'.

I am going to use an epoxy system for my garage. I have used epoxy-coat in the past with good results. Looking for suggestions on how to finish the concrete footers (vertical portions of concrete, not sure of the exact name) as mine are about 18" high. I'd rather not epoxy them (difficult to prep & paint) but on the other hand, I don't want to have a nice floor and ugly concrete right next to it.

The picture below provides an idea of the height of the concrete 'curbs'

Thoughts?? Suggestions??

Have Lowes or THD tint a gallon of concrete paint for the vertical portions.
They can tint it to match your floor color or a complimentary color.

Paint your garage prior to doing the floor.

Those are stem walls and I have the same problem except mine are about 3 feet high, with two 2x4's bolted on top and then the drywall goes up from there. I've started to put a coating of Quikwall over them to smooth them out and I'm going to just paint them a flat black.

I've talked to a number of contractors who have been over for other projects and it seems like the only other possible solution would be to frame it out and build a ledge up to where the drywall starts. I didn't want to go that route due to money and the fact that it would take up a fair amount of sq footage.

Hi, new to this forum looking to add some helpful advice if possible.. Coating consultant from Arizona.

I would suggest coating the footers with the same system as your floor for a couple of reasons.

First off, it will look uniform.

Secondly, you will offer the same protection that your floor has - UV resistance, abrasion resistance, corrosive fume resistance and chemical contact resistance. What happens when you drop that pan of cleaning solvent and it splashes onto your latex/acrylic/enamel footings and peels the coating right off?

Third, you won't have to baby the footing when you are using either a detergent to clean your floor or power washing it.

As far as surface prep, an ICRI-CSP 2 would be adequate (mechanical abrasion, diamond grind). Yes, it may take an extra hour or 2 but in my opinion it would be worth it. We know the footings won't get nearly as much abuse, for the most part, but why not properly coat it if you are doing the rest of the garage?

It's really not any harder to roll a vertical area that small with a 9" roller. IDK what kind of floor you are going for (thin film, laminate, double broadcast) just keep your mils in check and you should be fine.

You also have some other options above, just adding my .02
