Suggestions to level garage floor

Hello,

I've been lurking here for a while, mostly admiring all the cools pics of garages.

This is my first post!

I live in a 1921 bungalow in a suburb of L.A. My garage is a pretty standard 2 car garage that was built over the foundation of the old single car garage.

The new(ish) garage was probable built some 30 years ago by the home owner. He left the original slab and poured around it to build the new garage.

I would really like to finally fix up the garage - start with the floor. Problem is that the original slap is pitted and is not level quite with the new slab.

What would you recommend to level the 2 slabs. Is this something I can do myself or would a contractor be better for this?

If you want to transition between them, use an epoxy resurfacer.
If you want to raise one, try a slab-jacker (contractor).

What is the difference between the (2) slabs?
Are they off at the transition only or across the entire slab?

The difference is minimal. Maybe 1/8 of an inch. However, the newer slab completely surrounds the older slab.

If the traffic is light you could use a cement based product like thin-set.

However, if you expect heavy traffic, cars, motorcycles, tools hitting the ground then you should use a self-leveling epoxy.

We have one that is a cross between the two.
