Hello all, new here & have posted on the "newbie" section! :)

I am seeking a few (or more) suggestions about storage. I currently have a SN Heritage 72" stationary box & cart. My shop is adding on & I will be working in a bay across the shop as well as my current bay.

I am using a 26" stacked combo but need more space for the second bay. a 40" box (top & bottom) would be suffice

My question is which would be more logical?
1) buy a 40" (or so) stacked combo OR
2) Buy a side box & 40" top box?

either option will provide the same amount of storage but option 2 will cost a bit less. As I just purchased a new pick-up, money is not a free.

Thanks for help/suggestions

Yes it does have wheels but the P.I.T.A. factor comes into play as it is very full. :) I'll probably make things work as is. like you stated

Was in a hurry when I typed that. Anyway, any suggestions?

are you talking about you plan to sit your toolbox in one bay and have other toolbox at other shop? it is your two job or one job? i would like more detail before make a suggestion..

i am working for Dealerships (chrysler/jeep) AND (Mercury/ Lincoln). i own KRL1001 and KR1200 and craftsman 40in wide (8 drawers) on custom-made metal storage. when i got that job two years ago and my job suppose to be stay in chrysler/ jeep dealership but next door (mercury/ Lincoln) need me to help or do oil change or even do engine repair.. so i had cheap cart to bring my tools next door... but while working there almost 2 years, i bought snap on four drawers with locking lid (i paid used one) i did bring it forward and back between two shop for two years... but i did a lot of engine repairs on Mercury shop than chrysler shop... so well... i am glad that i had that snap on service cart with four drawers so i can put my most common tools in and i dont have to bother my big boxes... if i need special or other tool then it is my time to visit to my boxes...

Or you could always do what many in industry do and weld up a carriage/chassis for you roll cab and top box to set on and outfit it with as nice a set of casters as you want. It will make it a better traveler!

Alot of it depends on workbench space. How often do you use the top of your box as a workbench, desk, parts counter, etc.? you'll lose that with a top box. When I worked for the city, I had my main box in one spot and worked out of a 7 drawer Cornwell cart as I moved from bay to bay. The Cornwell cart is big enough to hold all of the tools I needed for 90% of the jobs I do and it rolls easily. One last consideration is the bigger the box combo, the harder it is to move it if you change jobs.

One job, same shop, just on the other side of the shop. I have my big box in my main area,,,2 bays side by side,,,I am now starting to work in yet another bay on the other side of the building. I'm using my old 26" New Britian combo in the 3rd bay with a (mostly) complete other set of tools.

As far as using a workbench, there is a nice one in the other bay already, so that isn't much of a concern.

My budget is pretty much out the window anyway so price isn't too big of concern. & my new storage doesn't have to be Snap On.

I am mainly trying to combine price/usable storage/logic into one.
Is that possible????:wtf:

Thanks for all the input so far,,,,

Leave it in the other bay

i am wonder what would you use that snap on box at other bay? only brakes or suspensions?? i can't have other box in my work because i had too many boxes in my work as they only allow me to have snap on service cart where i can bring all round where i will need to work...

A 2nd set of tools so I don't have to roll my other box across the building all the time. Kinda crazy I know but I don't like having to move stuff all the time.

Plus, for $600 who cares what I put in it!!!:)

Check out what some of the race track guys use.
I have seen full 72 x 36 inch work benches with tool drawers under the tops.
If you dodn't need the work bench, it couls be taller. Just so it dosn't get tippy.
Go Kart drive axles powered by a starter motor.
Front wheels have a removable steering handle with a plug in forward/reverse switch.
Big tires make it easy to use in rough areas.
Basicly a big, heavy duty, self propelled, "Red Wagon."
