Sockets: I suggest aiming for 2 sets of sockets, basically in case a socket breaks and the tool truck guy is not going to be around soon, but also this would be a time to satisfy the 6 point or 12 point desires by having one of each. In addition, I suggest getting a set of cheap possibly used sockets and/or imports for possible use to drive bearings or seals and to keep in a separate drawer to loan out. Do same for combination wrenches. I'm not going to go so far as to suggest getting those cheap RH ratchets that come with the cheap socket sets,LOL, but a spare ratchet or two of decent quality can be useful.
It has been my fairly limited experience that it's not good to go cheaply on screwdrivers, especially Phillips drivers. However, it's a good idea to have a handfull of cheaper screwdrivers to use for chisels and prybars. Wood chisels can usually be found used and they make good gasket scrapers.
I'm sure others have useful hints based on experience.
