I have a sullair 185 that I bought for sand blasting for my powdercoating business. I just started it and was goingto blast and the compressor died. I might have ran it out of fuel the tank was low but not sure if that was my problem shops pretty cold here in Minnesota. so I filled the tank replaced the fuel filter and now It still wont start. I checked oil levels just going over things and its not even on my dip stick. what kind of oil do I run in here and how much oil does it hold? where would you start on the no start issue? I also don't think my primer works. thanks in advance.

Have you purged all of the air out of the fuel lines? You often will have to loosen the Swagelock fittings at the injection pump while cranking it over to get all of the air out of the lines.

Does this unit have a manual lift pump to prime your injection pump? Did you cycle it?

Did you fill the fuel filter with fuel before installing it?

As far as I know, the engine will take 15W40, just like almost every other industrial diesel engine I have used. As far as capacity goes, you will just need to add and check with the dipstick. The compressor will take AW32 hydraulic fluid, or a specific compressor lube like Sullube. Do not mix oils.

What kind of motor is it? A John Deere, Perkins?

If there is no oil pressure, the motor will die as soon as you let go of the bypass button. This button momentarily takes the low oil pressure shutdown (and maybe others) out of the electrical loop so the motor can start up.

Have you checked the simple things like fuses?

If you ran it out of fuel you'll have to bleed all the air out of the system. It's also possible you have ice in the fuel tank floating around blocking the pickup line.

I have a sullair 260. with John deere engine. Mine has 2 hand primer pumps. One of them got some **** in it and would let air in system. If you have hand pump, Its on top of filter. Take it apart and check rubber diaphram for ****. Also pump up as much as possible, then keep pumping while you crank over engine. Ive found it helps to get fuel into system. Make sure you plug in block heater.
