I had not seen much on the Sullivan Palatek compressors so I decided to post this.
I bought this during about 20 degree weather. Not an ideal time to do such a thing. Unloading it was a royal pain. I had to cut the hard line going into the compressor tank to be able to separate the air handling unit. Splitting the 2 made it a little easier to get out of the pickup. There was still snow on the ground which had ice beneath it that blading the driveway hadn’t been able to penetrate. Pushing the cherry picker through it was adding to the frustration.
The top of the tank had an incredibly thick layer body shop debris.
This is the amount I was able to scrape off just between the two supports on the top of the tank. I assume quite a bit of over spray and body filler made a nice mixture.
Gauges were coated pretty well also.
Top after cleaning - I was working nights at the time so I hauled the tank to a car wash at 4 am and pressure washed the exterior of the tank. Later on I pressure washed the interior as well.
Air handling unit – Approximately after 20 hours of cleaning on the air handler with a steamer, steel wool, and assorted other stuff it is looking pretty good.
Here it is reassembled after doing some cooling fan clearancing, straightening some brackets, repainting, and cleaning the radiator.
Cleaned up gauges - Plastic polish and time made them come out pretty well.
I knew it was going to be a lot of work when I bought it but after changing the oil, all filters, and internal cleaning it works well. I have ran it for awhile and discovered that the minimum pressure check valve body cracked so I ordered a new one and will attempt to repair it but it’s cast so not sure it will work well anyway. The price was right so I couldn’t pass it up.
