Sump basin questions

Nearing the final steps of get a proper basin in. Couple questions to round it off though.



I’m heading out to get the filter fabric. Should I grab a bag of concrete or will the hydrolic cement I already have suffice if I mix it thick?
Holes in the bottom or no? I figure they can’t hurt. And otherwise, drop a paver in the middle for the pump to sit on?

I would fill the voids to stop the patch from falling down, and hydraulic or sand mix is all you need to patch around the perimeter. a paver on the bottom is a good idea

Figured I’d slip as much gravel in there as I can fit.

Is there any holes in the basin now?
If not several holes in the bottom, when I did mine I used a paddle bit and drilled 3/4" holes
Maybe some holes on the sides.

Alright. The basin has holes in the sides already. I read so much conflicting stuff on basins and such, I think I'll skip the filter fabric, it seems a good place to choke off the water flow to me, will line with gravel as much as possible though. I'll rinse off what i have good first.

The bigger conflict seems to be the holes in the bottom. There are plumbers dead set against it and some that talk the reasoning I get that put them in so the basin doesn't try to float. Figure I'll keep them small, gravel underneath anyway.

Watch me have to pop this thing back out some years down the line...

Heck, my basin is a piece of 18 or 20" culvert pipe but I might have poured a little concrete in the bottom but it's not "set" in concrete.

I think I would have holes in mine.

Just curious, I'm assuming you have water in your basement? Was the dirt you pulled out wet or bone dry? If your only seeing water during rain storms it's most likely grade level water and the basket might not work.

I'd keep the bottom plugged like Nuttsgt said, it keeps more dirt and sand from moving up into the pump and wreaking havoc. Put a few holes in the side and put your pump on top of a brick. It might not be a bad idea to drill a 3/4" hole in that corner to monitor how much water you're seeing in the blocks. Make sure it can drain into the basket.

Basement stays dry, there was one corner that would see a little water after a really heavy rain but that has been fixed by proper sloping. The hole will stay dry until it rains a good amount. Torrential non stop rain, it’ll kick on regularly, like every 20 minutes with that smaller pail (garbage can with holes all over)

The new basin has holes in the side already. The gravel I dug out was at most damp from sitting in that hole on the bottom, no water of any sort found. Couple holes in the bottom I figure to keep the basin from wanting to float, that would be a disaster trying to get it back down with any sort of gravel around it.
