Ok, this is a photo FOR Mr. A; of the failed system (with the new pump installed). By the staining on the wall you can see where the check valve parted from the pipe. This will be replaced with all new pipe and the check valve will be located closer to the floor and I will install a fitting at the top of the pipe with a 1/4 inch tube to drain about 4" of water from the top.
I am still cleaning up the mess so it might take a while before I get back to the changes.
Thank you ALL for the feed back, I have never dealt with this problem before and was thinking of just removing the check valve but never thought of the extra stress it would put on the pump.
