Sump Pump Issue

I installed a sump pump which exits my house through PVC and then connects to a flexible hose and then to a few feet from my house. My problem is that the water froze in the PVC pipe (Chicago winters) and now my pump keeps running, but obviously nothing will exit.

The check valve is half way up the PVC exit. I drilled a relief hole in the PVC between the check valve & sump pump. So when the water drains from the relief hole there is still water in the PVC above the check valve. Which is causing my problems because it froze.

Is the relief hole positioned properly? or is my problem that the flexible hose outside the house isn't sloped properly?

Any suggestions?

the problem is the discharge hose outside.

can you reroute the sump pump discharge to the house main discharge ?

this is below the frost line and connected to the sewer system, so the water you are pumping out is sure to not come back. if you are simply discharging outside near the foundation, you have a circular problem as the water you are discharging will eventually leech back.
