I have a Sun 1020 that's in reasonably good condition. I bought it with all kinds of cables bells and whistles. Question about the cables. Whenever I hook the scope cables to my 67 Olds I loose the #3&6 cyl spark. I am using the cable that has 1 red alg conn, 1 blk alg conn, and the HV coil hookup. Blk conn goes to gnd and the red is going to the dist side of the coil. Back in the day, when I used these machines brand new, the coil hookup was inductive. The car is point ign. Is the setup I have for electronic ign? Or ?? Any ideas as to why I loose the 3&6 spark whenever I attach the cables? Scope works great and the dead cyls show on the screen as dead. I'm wondering if I need a different hookup cable. Oh and I do have an inductive head to switch out with the bulbous coil thing that's on it now, same prob. Thanks...

look for a cyl select button..you may have it on 6 cyl and your testing a v-8 . it's picking up 1 8 4 and 5 7 2 . hope this helps.

I'll try it again maybe I wasn't clear enough. When I said I lost the 3&6 cylinder spark I mean 3&6 go dead - no fire, engine goes to running on only 6 cyls when I hook up the Sun cables. I have the switch mentioned above on 8 cyl and I do have an 8 cyl raster showing on the scope. For some reason the machine is killing cyls 3&6. The scope raster shows flat line for those cyls only. I might also add that 3&6 are consecutive in the firing order. Don't know if there is a tie-in there. The other 6 cyls show a proper scope line.

All new ign components - from coil to cond.

Any help?:dunno:
