I recently picked up this thing from Craigslist so I can use it to work on a 65 Tbird and my Fieros. Everything seems to work ok except I keep getting a 'Low Flow' error on the cal screen. I changed all the hoses which were in horrible shape and still get the same error. Unfortunately I am left with two hoses that were not connected when I got the machine. I'm sure they need to go somewhere - possibly connected - but I can't figure out where.

Does anyone have access to a machine that they can take pictures of the vacuum motor drawer so I can compare what I have? That or a diagram would be awesome.

I'm also looking for discs, the CD drive/Mitchell on Demand disks, spare HDD and any other addons to the machine but I'll post that in the B/S Forum a little later.

I'll be nice and not post more pics of my overly cramped one car garage. It would probably scare some of the people on here with the pretty garages I envy :)

$125 Figured if it didn't work at all I would have a very big mobile workbench :) It is 6' tall, 4.5' wide and about 3' deep. I was visiting the in-laws in NC and bought it there. Had to drive back to Virginia Beach, VA with it standing up in the back of a Ford Ranger. Scary ride but it made it back without a hitch.

Had not seen the pdf. Didn't come up when I played on Google earlier. I'll make a printout to put in the binder that came with it.

The link for the disks is the only one I saw also. Little more expensive that I'm wanting to spend. I have about 30 disks already mainly GM, Chrysler and Ford. Not a single import one. I am hoping that someone will know where a machine is sitting unused that will want to sell disks or other parts off it. The machines don't bring much on ebay since they are usually pickup only because of the sheer bulk of the thing.

Thanks for the links. Really appreciate it.

There are two of them on ebay right now, you might try emailing the seller and if he's a nice guy, he might check them for you.

I have several floppy disks for this unit. I can copy and burn them to a disk or I could e-mail them to you. Did you get the vacuum straightened out. I can use a picture of where the vacuum line routing. My vacuum lines were broken. I put them where it looked like they should go. I had the same problem with a low flow error, I was able to get the emission part to work. I had to pinch off a vacuum line, I don't remember which one. If you are still having this problem, I'll pull the back off the unit and find it. I don't have the main manual (I could use a copy). I do have several supplemental manuals.

Let me know what you need.

I wanted to back up my disks, but when I tried to copy the disks, my computer did not seem to recognize them. It would sit there for a minute, and then ask me if I wanted to format them. I tried several different computers, but no luck.
I did get some pictures of the vacuum lines from another unit, and can make out where most of the lines go. PM me if you would like me to send them to you.
I talked with SUN (SnapOn), and they no longer have any information on this unit. They referred me to my local rep, and he MIGHT have some information. I talked with him, and he wants $250 to re-hose it, and another $200 to calibrate it. From what I understand, the O2 sensor drifts in these units and only last about 2 - 3 years.
I currently have the diagnostic portion working. The Exhaust portion is still down, and the Scope function is showing (DISABLED). not sue what that is all about, but that is the part I want the most. It is going to be a long road.

I should have mentioned that I have a MCA-3000. I'm not sure if my disks will work with your unit. I'll willing to try.

Hey guys,

I have on e of these units myself, and have successfully repaired a low-flow issue with the infra-red unit. Try, this,

Opening the infra-red unit back panel containing the exhaust gas analyzer (the large unit on the right on the back) you will see a unit having a fan on it, blue in color with vacuum lines going to it. First, check the hoses, and then simply remove the four screws retaining the pump head. There is no gasket, and the valves are stainless steel. My problem was that exhaust particulates had gathered on the valves, eliminating the proper operation. When I cleaned the valves, (they are reed-type), the unit performed perfectly, including the vacuum supply for vacuum testing. I also have the complete software package for the vehicle testing of specific on-board computers. Let me know... Ray

the problem is the filter on the vacuum pump the filters get dirty and can't move enough air. That is a very nice machine I used one just like it for several years. The guy I worked for paid $26000.00 for it new.

Hello,

I just recieved a Sun Interrogator II 1805 machine from a friend of mine who closed down shop. I got the unit to run, but I can't use it until I get all of the hoses replaced on it. Does anyone have a diagram of how all of the hoses connect on the back of the machine? I see other people have asked for similar items, maybe someone got lucky and recieved pictures or a service manual?

Thank you

Recent owner of a SUN MCA-3000 with two processors and two gas trays. It trys to boot but fails at the disk check screen. My "Master Program A" diskettes are good, but the "1994 Vehicle Limits and Diagnostics Enhanced B" diskettes are not recoverable. Any assistance in locating these disks or their content greatly appreciated. My unit is complete, formerly a CA smog station, if anyone still needs configuration information.

I had one of those I bought lightly used back in 92. I paid 6000 dollars for it. It got ruined in 1999 during Hurricane Floyd filled my shop with mud. It fell face forward into the mud. I still have all the nomenclature for it in one of my file cabinets. Good machine back in the day. 125 dollars is a real score.

Hello everyone,

I have many electrical & very-good to excellent condition trim components as well as disks & manual copies for MCA3000s. I have a like-new Allen Model 25 Analog Scope with a 2-gas Analyzer that Hot Rod shops like for tuning pre-emission controlled muscle & exotic car engines. I also have many hard to find parts for Allen & Sun Automotive Test Equipment. Let me know if you need anything.

Thanks,
Mike

Sorry to dig up an old thread, I've just acquired a SUN MCA 3000 from the university where I'm studying. The machine is in really good condition, I don't think it's had much use at all. Unfortunately when I try to boot it up I just get a blank screen, nothing at all on it. I opened up the computer drawer on the back and there were 2 batteries dead, a 3 volt coin cell battery and a 6 volt with wires on it both of which were connected to different boards. I fitted two new batteries and it has made no difference. I have the operators manual and there is no reference to troubleshooting or any wiring diagrams. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi.
The gas analyzer part is a bit tricky, I think it is Beckman technology that was taken over by SUN. I also seem to recall that one of the original designers of it used to be on this forum.

The IR tuned wavelength filters and photosensors are hard to find nowadays, but gentle cleaning is usually enough. Also clean the mirrors and gas ducts. Overhauling the pump and the reed valves is a wise preventive mtce action.

The O2 sensor is a chemical cell, that has a limited life span whether used or not. Replacements are available I think.

The Swedish Sun rep cleared out all their old stuff except documentation several years ago, guess it is much the same for other countries.

Best regards

Hello Mike,
I realize this is a old post you made but I wanted to ask you.
I have a Allen Diagnostics II Engine Analyzer and I am looking for the Books for it. I do have the Factory Service Manual. I need the Owner/Operators Manual, any chance you may have it? Original or a Copy even a PDF copy would work.
Thanks,
Kevin kline

As a new owner of MCA 3000 Analyzer, i am a bit lost of few things here.
Unit language is in German at present, and i would like to change it to English.
Can anyone help me with this issue? I have original operating instruction manual in English, but i could not find anything about changing language there.
If anyone needs a copy of this manual, just let me know. I am happy to help.

Thanks

I have a Sun MCA-3000 that powers up and that's it. I have a bunch of disks all the manuals. the remote control connector is gone and I think this might be part of the reason it doesn't work. Pumps come on but all the hoses are brittle. What material is the hose made of. Any help would be great I see this is an old thread but thought I'd give it a try

Sun MCA 3000 engine analyzer at auction

looking at a possible auction purchase. what should i inspect before bidding ?
I would be most interested in the exhaust analyzer function. would this be a waste of time ? considering the current technology available today ?
