sun tester trouble shooting

I have a sun 1160 engine tester, and am trying to get the tach to work. I have got everything else working, but suspect the pick-up that clamps on to the no.1 lead is not working. The one for the coil lead works, as I get a trace on the scope for all the cylinders. Is there a way to test the pick-up, it is a chrome clamp with the sun logo on it. The tach guage range light works when I switch it from different ranges, so I think the guage is good. Is there also away to test the cable, other than checking conductivity? I assume the one that goes on the no.1 lead also is the sensor for the tach.

Any help appreciated

I'm sure you've Googled it - there a guy with a site who sells/rebuilds and has parts.

Plus we have/had a member (Goodfellow) who turned me onto Sun Machines and knows a lot. You could shoot him a PM, though he hangs out more a the darkside now.

On my machine the no1 clamp is chrome and the manual shows the coil one as one that plugs into the cap and the coil lead plugs into the sensor. It is a long round unit with wires out each end.
