Sun TUT 1015 analyzer

I know this is probably a lost cause, but I recently acquired a Sun TUT 1015 analyzer- I work on a lot of "distributor" style cars, and this thing would be an ideal tool for tune ups and diagnoses.
Everything works except the scope. I'm really handy at electronic stuff, but it would be ideal to get schematics or even better some boards/ power supplies to change out to get it working.
Again, I know it's a long shot, but if anyone can help me out with this I would be grateful!
I live in Central Alberta Canada and would be happy to pay any postage/ shipping costs.

Cheers

Mike Compston

ycmike....welcome to Garage Journal. You should update your profile with your location......helps us to help you. I don't know why this is not mandatory, but...... You could do a search on this site for "Sun Analyzer" as I seem to remember there were other Sun Analyzers on here before. Good luck.

Nice to hear of yet another one that has thus far escaped the crusher! I personally have way too many Sun testers for one person (kind of an addiction once you get started...), and am fortunate to have a pristine TUT-1015 as one of them. While I do not have any schematics readily at hand (everything is in storage while I rearrange the shop), I can possibly help.

If your scope shows absolutely nothing on the screen, and you cannot hear a low volume "hum" coming from the unit on power up and during use, then one of three common things has likely befallen your unit- 1. The CRT unit itself has died, or been broken internally; 2. The power transformer for the CRT unit has died; or 3. The circuit board controlling the outputs to the CRT has failed (this typically happens due to a build-up of dust shorting the circuits out). I have had some (limited) success with removing the cover panels, opening the cabinet up and blowing off/vacuuming the dust out (use LOW pressure air). This will occasionally bring a dust-covered unit back to life. Sometimes the dust is just enough to build up resistance in a circuit or two, impeding signal transfer, but not circuit death. Removing the circuit boards and using electrical cleaner to clean the contacts often does wonders, even for a working machine.

The good news is that while there are very few places to obtain new or used Sun parts from, many TV repair places can replace blown power transformers, and sometimes help with a replacement CRT that will fit the cabinet. If your board(s) have gone bad, you will likely need to source spare parts via eBay or CL.

If you ever happen to come across a Sun 2000 Monitor, which was a stand-alone accessory monitor to place in a waiting room for use with the 2001 Computer, let me know- I have been trying to find one for almost ten years now.

Thank you all for your replies.
I have changed all the electrolytic capacitors and easy to change power transistors and regulators.
The CRT filament lights up but no sound at all from the HV power supply.
I noticed that some of the legs on the ICs are dirty/have dark corrosion on them. Would cleaning these help?

Glad to know I'm not the only one. I have five or six in various states.

Ok, I'm still trying to get this thing working.
I unplugged the cooling fan an sure enough I cam hear a faint ticking from the HV power supply, but still no trace.
Any ideas or troubleshooting hints?

Mike have you gotten your 1015 to work? my 1015 worked last October but the scope does not work now, I switched bourds but that didn't bring it back to life, there is a light in the end of the tube when you look @ it but no trace on screen side .
