I got this from my brother today, he's in the process of cleaning out his father-in-law's basement. It still works, but it's more of a display piece than a useful tool these days. :)

He also found this sealed box of assorted springs from Sears, which is kind of a fun thing.

Nice Score!

I love these vintage tools, especially the ones in the metal boxes. I have been on the hunt for the ones that came in the metal boxes that were designed to be hung on the wall. You unlatch them, open up the box and hang them on some screws you've put on the wall. They hold & display the tools and assorted extras like drill bits, etc.

Love 'em.

until the metal housing was so hot it burned my hands.

Oh yeah, I remember doing that a lot as a kid.

Although I gather these tools mostly for their nostalgia value.... I use them all.

I love the warm, nostalgic feeling I get from using them. reminds me of my Dad and all the time he spent with me teaching me, developing my skills and just being a Great Dad!

None the less, I use use them mostly for clean, light duty jobs and admit to having a modern version of each of these vintage tools for heavy use.

I can remember running a drill motor like that, with a sanding disk, until the metal housing was so hot it burned my hands.

X2...

I helped my Dad rebuild cars and we used a metal brush to get the paint out of the cracks and crevices before putting bondo on. I remember having it so hot one time that I had two grease rags and a pair of gloves on and still got burned.

This one does have a key shaped slot so it can be hung on the wall, you can see it in the picture with the box opened. It has a little bracket for holding drill bits as well, I suppose I should put some extra bits in it and hang it up.

Awesome piece of history for sure . . . that SunBeam drill motor is in pristine shape . . . . it's a KEEPER for sure!

Brings back teenage memories of using an aluminum-cased Black & Decker that I ran like dog until that sucker was so hot, you had to wear gloves to hold the thing!! Eventually, I kept using it as wirewheel to shine up some chrome parts on my frame-off bicycle resto that I closed that old drill motor in the vise!! Needless to say my dad didn't have very good tools back then, including no wirewheel mounted on a grinder. However, that old drill motor never died.
